Finding

your path

in this journey

we call life

At Compass Counseling Services it is strongly believed that we are all equipped with the tools necessary to transform our lives; however, when life happens our paths sometimes feel off kilter. There are times when we need guidance and support in evaluating a situation or identifying what needs to change.

some come to clear your path!"  - Unknown

Hello and thanks for stopping by! My name is Amber Belanger and I am here to help you find your path!

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who is energetic and passionate about the therapeutic process. My style is comfortable, relaxed, and sprinkled with humor. I am a Gottman Trained Educator and am certified in both Bringing Baby Home and The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work programs. I have experience working with teens/adolescents, families, adults, and couples, in a vast array of relational challenges. I am comfortable addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal/relationship issues, separation and divorce, grief and loss, perinatal issues, parenting issues, and adjustment difficulties.

I work primarily from a family systems perspective and offer counseling through a strength-based and client-centered approach. You will find my personality to be balanced, encouraging, supportive, and directive when necessary.

I am a transplant from California and have been in the PNW since 2007. I got my start in helping people while working as a paralegal in Family Law. Wanting to integrate the person mind, body and spirit, I decided to pursue a counseling degree. I completed my undergraduate degree from California State University, Long Beach and received a Masters of Science in Human Services with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. While completing my graduate degree, I got the opportunity to move to Hawaii and spent five years working in schools and community mental health agencies all over the island of Oahu.

SERVICES

Individual Counseling

It is understood that no two people are the same, thus my work and interactions are tailored to meet you where you are at. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship strain with the family or any other adjustment, we will work together to recognize and flush out underlying problems, while allowing you to fully realize your strengths, helping you to create healthier behaviors that allow you to see things in a different, healthier way.

Couples Counseling

Building and keeping relationships can be one of the hardest things we will have to do in life, especially with all of the demands and challenges that every day life can bring. Counseling can be a useful tool in your tool box to help you address whatever challenges or struggles your relationship might be facing, such as communication difficulties, parenting, intimacy, infidelity, anger/resentment, or difficult in-laws. Counseling can be a safe place to prepare for a long-term committed relationship or marriage and/or be a safe landing spot to help you process and evaluate if you are going through a separation or divorce.

I offer an objective, non-judgmental perspective to help you navigate the sometimes difficult interpersonal relationships in your life. I come from a client-centered approach, meaning that therapy will be based on your specific relationship needs, as you are the expert in your own life. Methods used include Cognitive Behavioral Couples Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and as a Gottman Trained Educator I utilize Gottman Method Couples Therapy.

Faith Based Counseling

As a Christian counselor,

I firmly believe the Holy Spirit is the

Way, the Truth, and the Life; provider of both healing and forgiveness.

“Encourage one another and

build each other up”

1 Thessalonians 5:11

I work with both Christian and non-Christian clients. It is totally up to my clients to decide whether or not they want to include aspects of spiritually and faith into their sessions. Wherever you might be on your spiritual journey, I am here to encourage you and build you up as a respectful and empathetic listener.
